Isle of Wight holiday cottages2 Ivy Cottages is a beautiful stone built character cottage in a peaceful rural location on the edge of the hamlet of Billingham. Surrounded by beautiful countryside the cottage is only a 10 minute drive from the nearby villages of Shorwell, Chale and Godshill where there is a choice of shops and charming eateries. The central island location of this cottage is ideal to explore all that the Isle of Wight has to offer.

Isle of Wight holiday cottagesThis period cottage was extended in 2006 and provides spacious accommodation for up to 8 people – ideal for large family occasions or holidays with friends. And the family dog can come too – up to 3 well behaved dogs accepted at a cost of £15 per dog. The cottage has parking for up to 4 vehicles, a huge enclosed lawned garden with picnic table & chairs, swings and a playbarn. Surrounded by gorgeous countryside there is a public footpath to Kingston and Shorwell which is accessed directly through the garden gate. Cycles can be stored in the playbarn.

2 Ivy Cottages – Dining room

You will enter through the front door into a charming hallway which leads, on the ground floor, to an open plan living & dining area and separate kitchen, a family bathroom and utility room. Upstairs you will find 2 double bedrooms, a twin bedroom, a bunk bed room and a spacious shower room, all with fantastic countryside views. Note the staircase is steep with a 90 degree turn halfway up so may be difficult for those with limited mobility (stair gates in place for children). Furnished to a high standard and with double glazing, central heating and a log burner this cottage is suitable for holidays and short breaks all year round.

Isle of Wight holiday cottagesGuests staying for 7 nights or more are welcomed with a hamper including local island produce. A typical hamper will include milk, apple juice, bread, butter/spread, Isle of Wight Blue Cheese, jam/preserve, cake, biscuits and seasonal flowers (items can be swapped on request). A starter pack of coffee, tea & sugar is also provided.

Ground floor: hallway, living room, dining room (seating for 8 people), fully fitted kitchen (fridge/freezer, double range cooker with grill, halogen hob & extractor hood, microwave, dishwasher, table & 4 chairs), family bathroom (bath & overhead power shower), utility room (washing machine & tumble dryer).

From East Cowes ferry, take Hefford Road and Old Road to York Avenue/A3021. At the roundabout, 1st exit onto Whippingham Road/A3021. At the roundabout, 2nd exit onto Racecourse/A3054. At the roundabout, 3rd exit onto St Georges Way/A3020. Turn right onto Blackwater Hollow/A3020. Turn right onto Highwood Lane. Turn left and continue onto Berry Shute.

From Fishbourne ferry, head south-east on Fishbourne Lane/B3731 towards Elenors Grove/A3054. Turn right onto Kite Hill/A3054. Turn left onto Station Road. At the roundabout, 1st exit onto Briddlesford Road. At the roundabout, continue straight onto Downend Road. Turn right onto A3056. Turn left onto Blackwater Hollow/A3020. Turn right onto Highwood Lane. Turn left and continue onto Berry Shute.

From Yarmouth ferry, at the roundabout, turn right onto A3054 towards Freshwater. At Freshwater Bay turn left onto A3055 (Military Road). On reaching Brighstone, turn left onto New Road. Turn right onto Main Road/B3399 towards Shorwell. At the roundabout in Shorwell take the 2nd exit onto Farriers Way/B3399. Turn left at Emmett Hill.

The cottage is a perfect place to escape from it all, surrounded by farmland with views of the downs and the countryside.  Amazing to look at the stars at night with all that sky and hardly any light pollution. Great for our two Golden retrievers who loved the spacious garden which is safely enclosed. There is a lovely walk from the back gate across the field, down to the main road where the path passes through the farm. Plenty of other great walks over Chillerton, Brighstone and Mottistone Downs a short drive away.

The cottage is a home from home – very  warm and cosy, comfortable, clean and spacious. A log burner in the sitting room with a plentiful supply of logs makes for a perfect cosy evening in in the depths of a dark, cold winter. The kitchen is clean and fully equipped. A nice little touch to have some complimentary locally made biscuits and apple juice for when we arrived.  We have stayed at the cottage three times now and can’t wait for our next visit!
